Module Pages and Notifications

Module Pages & Notifications

Module pages contain small boxes (similar to the channels on myCommNet) that "pull in" and display information from various tools, such as Calendar, Announcements, and Tasks. Some modules can display Notifications to faculty and/or students based on Due Dates or Early Warning System rules.

Some of the modules that display on Module Pages work with Notification Settings that the user can set. These notification settings can be set at the course level from within the modules, or at the institution level by clicking on the My Places link.

In addition, it's important to understand that while most modules are useful to both instructors and students, some are specifically targeted at instructors while others are targeted specifically at students, specifically:

  • Instructor-specific modules:
    •  Alerts:  Let's instructors know if any student has any Past Due items, or if any Early Warning System rules have been broken. Based on Edit Notification settings.
    • Needs Attention:  Let's instructors know if students have submitted any gradable items for grading.

  • Student-specific modules of note:
    • To-Do:  This module provides Notifications to students to let them know if they have upcoming gradeable activities in the next day, week, or future, as well as past due activities, Based on Edit Notification settings. IMPORTANT NOTE:  EVEN WITH EDIT MODE SET TO "OFF", INSTRUCTORS WILL NOT SEE WHAT STUDENTS SEE IF THEY LOOK AT THE "TO-DO" MODULE!

I am receiving notifications in an email digest, OR I'm receiving notifications for tools I'm not using in my course.
You can receive notifications from Bb Learn of new activity in your course in two ways:  Via email, and/or view the modules that appear on Module Pages that you create (typically named something like Notifications & Alerts, Notifications Dashboard, Instructor Alerts, etc.). What you see/receive as notifications is dependent upon your PERSONAL notification settings which can be easily edited.
N/A - no "notifications" functions in Bb Vista
To change your personal Notification Settings:

Go to My Places>Edit Notifcation Settings>Bulk Notification Settings>Courses I’m teaching. Simply deselect the checkboxes for the tools you’re not using or don’t wish to receive notifications for.

The notification information I'm receiving (such as the number of unread messages, or assignment due dates, etc.) seems to be incorrect.
Some users have reported that the numbers or information displayed in notifications that they receive via email or in the instructor-specific notifications modules (Alerts, or Needs Attention) or in the their notification emails or daily digest is incorrect.

This issue has been reported to Blackboard; no fix or update is currently available.
