Adaptive Release

Page history last edited by Tobi Krutt 11 years, 8 months ago

Adaptive Release allows distribution of content as the course progresses, the same as in a traditional classroom-based course. However, the instructor has a number of different choices as to how and when to release course content and activities, including Date, Review Status, Membership, and/or Grades). The different types of criteria may be combined to determine the release of specific course content or activities.

The Basic Adaptive Release settings enables instructors to set a single rule for each of the four basic criteria (Date, Review Status, Membership, and/or Grade Center value), for a given content item, and rules set for each criteria are additive; in other words, ALL rules must be met for the item to be released. The basic adaptive release settings enable instructors to create "AND" queries.
Example:
For the Learning Module entitled "Unit 2" to be released, the date must be =>1/27/11 AND the value in the test entitled "Unit 1 quiz" must be =>80.

The Advanced Adaptive Release settings enables instructors to create MULTIPLE rules for a given content item, and there can be multiple rules created for the same type of criteria (Date, Review Status, Membership, or Grades). In Advanced Adaptive Release settings the rules are not additive; rather, the content item will be released to students if ANY of the criteria rules are met. The Advanced Adaptive Release settings enable instructors to create "OR" queries.
Example: One rule may allow students to view the Alternate Research Project Assignment if they have =>88 on the Unit 8 quiz OR >=88 on the MidTerm OR they are a member of Group 1.

Can I copy Adaptive Release rules from one course to another?     Yes. When you export OR copy a course, one of the options is to export/copy AR rules.

I can't apply adaptive release settings to a discussion forum   Selective Release settings COULD be applied to discussion topics in Bb Vista.

If you go into the Discussion Board tool, Adaptive release rules cannot be applied to individual forums.

HOWEVER, if a discussion forum is LINKED from within a content area, folder, or learning module, AR rules CAN be applied to the link.

If the instructor is interested in using AR rules to restrict access to discussions based on group membership, however, it is MUCH easier and more efficient to accomplish this by setting up groups and enabling each group to have their own group discussion. Then when the instructor adds Members to the groups, only the students who are members of each group will be able to access their group's discussions (or group wiki, chat, etc.) Just add the Groups tool to the menu and then work from there.

AND/OR
release rulees

Setting AND vs. OR

Adaptive Release rules
can be accomplished in
Bb Learn, but a bit differently

In Blackboard Vista's Selective Release tool, users could set up rules based on multiple criteria and then specify whether the content item would be released only if ALL criteria were met (AND statements) versus if the content was to be released if ANY of the criteria were met (OR statements).
In Blackboard Learn, AND rules are created using the Basic Adaptive Release settings, while OR rules are created using the Advanced Adaptive Release settings.

If multiple rules are created, the content is visible to the user if any of the rules are met. Each rule may have multiple criteria. For example, one rule may allow users in Group A with a score above an 85 on a Test to view the content item. Another rule for the same item may allow users in Group B to view the same content item only after a specific date.
