Learning Modules

Page history last edited by Tobi Krutt 12 years, 2 months ago

Unlike Blackboard Vista, "Learning Modules" is no longer a stand-alone tool in Blackboard Learn. In other words, there is no single tool link that you can click on to see ALL of the learning modules that you have created in a given course. Instead, you need to navigate to the location where you have added the link to a given learning module in order to see it and/or edit it.

Learning modules are created from within Content Areas or Folders by clicking the "Build Content" button at the top. IT'S CRITICAL FOR INSTRUCTORS TO KNOW THAT IF THE CONTENT AREA OR FOLDER THAT CONTAINS THE LINK TO THE LEARNING MODULE IS DELETED, THE LEARNING MODULE AND (MOST) OF THE CONTENT IT CONTAINS WILL ALSO BE DELETED.

This includes any Assignments that may have been created within a given learning module. (The known exceptions are Discussions, Files that have been uploaded into the Content Collection, and Tests.)

I embedded HTML embedded to point to a YouTube video in a learning module and now I can't see other content in the learning module.     See related item in the ITEMS area of this wiki. T. Krutt per info from Marie Farrell 1/3/112
Can I add a link to more than one item at a time into a learning module?
In Bb Vista, users could open a learning module and add more than one item at a time from the File Manager. In Bb Learn, individual files can only be added one at a time, but there is a workaround that enables users to add a link to an entire folder at once.

In Bb Learn learning modules,  if you navigate to the Content Collection via the “File” option you only have a radio button and can select just one file at a time.

However, there's a different  approach available.

  1. First, upload the file content into a folder in your course’s Content Collection.
  2. Go into the learning module and create an Item.
  3. Now go to Attachments for that Item and click browse content collection, and navigate to the FOLDER containing the files.
  4. You will notice that there is a CHECKBOX in front of the folder. If you click to check it, what’s “attached” to that Item is a link to the folder, and when the users click on it, the folder opens and they can select ANY/ALL files inside it. Using this approach, you can point to an entire FOLDER of files, but still keep the size of the learning module very small.

What happened to headings and indents in learning modules?
In Bb Vista, instructors could add Headings to learning modules and indent content beneath headers.

Copying/Moving content into a learning module
A learning module in Bb Learn has subfolders and I cannot see the subfolders to move content into them!
In Bb Vista, users would remove something from one place and then add it elsewhere if they wanted to move it or copy it.
In Bb Learn, users can Copy or Move an item from one course location to another by clicking the action links dropdown menu and selecting the copy or move option. However, when moving an item into a learning module with subfolders, be sure to click the small "expand all" icon (looks like little folders with + sign) at the top of the "Select Location" dialog box or you may not see the subfolders inside the learning module.

How can I export/import a learning module in Bb Learn?
In Bb Vista, learning modules could be exported or imported.
Bb Learn does not enable instructors to export or import learning modules.
