When opening an Office 2007 document in Internet Explorer, Office presents an unnecessary authentication dialog box.

This is a recently identified bug between IE and Bb. It is scheduled to be fixed in an upcoming service pack. SOLUTION:  Clicking "Cancel" in the authentication dialog box allows the document to be opened normally.

EVEN WHEN THIS IS FIXED HOWEVER, we strongly recommend converting Office documents (particularly Word files and PowerPoints) to PDF format, because PDF files open quickly, do not require a separate application to launch, and have a high degree of consistency for printing purposes.

Update 4/23/12:
CONFIRMED FIXED ON SP8.

When I try to save a file that has been uploaded, the file extension type is changed.
Examples:  An instructor tries to save a file that a student has uploaded as an attachment to an assignment, and notices that the file extension has been changed (from .xsd is changed to .xsl, or .htm is changed to .html, or .doc is changed to .zip).
The instructor just needst o manually change file extension to whatever the correct, original one was. The main issue is that it's easy to miss this. See screenshot showing the problem. This has been reported to Blackboard.
