I saved a discussion post as a DRAFT and now I can't find it and/or edit it! ------ ----
  • If you save a discussion post you're working on as a draft and need to find it again later in order to finish it, first click on the discussion forum where you were writing the post.
  • You will see the post listed with the word "draft" after it in parentheses: (draft).
  • To finish editing it and then post it to the forum, click on the post's title, then look for the "Edit" button in the top right of the window displaying the post.
  • Click 'Edit', then make the changes and then click SUBMIT. It will now be visible in the discussion forum.

Discussions submitted not appearing in "needs grading" and appear stuck "in Progress"  in grade book.

If you de-selected the option below when setting up a discussion to be graded, the discussions students post do not show up under “Needs Grading” and show in the Gradebook as “In Progress”.

Solution: But if you go to Discussions, Grade, it will let you grade.

I can't apply Adaptive Release settings to a discussion forum   Selective Release rules could be applied to discussion topics in Bb Vista. See the related item in the Adaptive Release section of this wiki.

Cannot view posts in Discussion forums until the instructor went to Moderate Forum>Publish

The "Force moderation of posts" checkbox" is turned on by default in some migrated courses, so the"Moderate Forum" button appears and the instructor has to push through the posts. This issue has been traced back to a setting that seems to have been turned on by default in SOME migrated courses, but not all.

The fix:  Click the action links dropdown next to discussion forum >select Edit > deselect "force moderation of posts" checkbox.

Here's a video demo:

This is a Known Issue.  Was supposed to be "fixed" SP5 but that is what we are on.  Will check with Bb.

Unable to view posts in a discussion forum The instructor knows that there are posts to a discussion forum they have created but can't view them when they go to the forum. n/a CLICK ON "TREE VIEW" RATHER THAN "LIST VIEW" TO VIEW THE POSTS IN THE FORUM. THIS IS A KNOWN BUG but it does not occur for all users. It appears to be fixed by the next Service Pack 6 to be installed the end of the Fall 2011 term. See this screenshot of what to click on to view your discussion forum posts. T. Krutt

Unable to Subscribe to a Discussion forum or thread A given discussion's properties are set up to allow users to subscribe, but a member is unable to subscribe (they do not see the "subscribe" button when they open the forum or thread) n/a

Most likely the user who is unable to subscribe does not have an email address in Blackboard. To fix this they must do BOTH of the following things:

  1. In Blackboard Learn:  Click on My Places>Edit Personal Information and add their preferred email address.
  2. In Banner Self-Service (faculty or student):  Select college, select Personal Information and update email address information. This information will then be sent over to Blackboard automatically via the feed converter and/or integration process.  If the update is NOT done in Banner, then it will overwrite whatever was entered into Blackboard manually with a "null" value!

Un-highlight text in a draft discussion post
If you highlight text in a discussion post and want to remove the highlighting later, there is no "unhighlight" option and you don't see a white square in the available color palette. So, if you want to "unhighlight" text, you type #FFFFFF in the color value box and the highlighting goes away.

I have a number of "anonymous" posts in my Discussion forums in my migrated course--what should I do?
When courses are migrated from Bb Vista, some posts seem to always come over in existing discussions.

Solution:  Simply open the discussion forum and then click the checkbox at the top left of the column of posts to select ALL of the discussion posts in the forum, and then click the "Delete" button.
